MDS Annual Dinner

The Manhattan Day School’s 69th Annual Dinner was held on Sunday March 18, 2012 in the school building at 310 West 75th Street.

We are thrilled to publicize this year’s Dinner honorees. Our Guests of Honor, Yael and Amnon Mandelbaum, are proud parents of seven children, five of whom are MDS students.

Yael, a lawyer with degrees from Hebrew University and Fordham University, is working with several organizations that advocate for children. Amnon, a former captain in the IDF, has a B.A. and M.A. Tel-Aviv University and a Ph.D. from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. Amnon is a Senior Managing Director of Investment Banking at Sunrise Securities. Amnon also co-founded and is a Managing Partner of Sunrise Equity Partners, a fund investing in private and public companies. He is currently a member of the MDS Board of Directors, an active member of the MDS Capital Campaign Committee and is involved in various charitable Israeli and U.S. organizations. The Mandelbaums are actively dedicated to the growth of MDS.

This year the Charles & Els Bendheim Distinguished Service Award was presented to Ami Eden. Ami is the CEO and Editor in Chief of JTA (Jewish Telegraphic Agency), an international non-profit Jewish news agency serving 80 client newspapers and websites and 2.5 million annual online readers. He recently oversaw the launch of the JTA Jewish News Archive, a free database/website for scholars and regular users featuring more than 250,000 articles, including real-time coverage of the Holocaust, the creation of the State of Israel, the Six Day War, the struggle for Soviet Jewry and other major developments in modern Jewish history. Ami and his wife, Jennifer, have four children at MDS.

Further, we were delighted to honor Bernice Mandel, a beloved pre-school teacher, with our Faculty Award. Bernice’s association with MDS began as a parent in 1975. All of her children are MDS graduates and she served as PTA President from 1981-1983. She and her husband Benjy were members of the MDS Board of Directors for many years. Bernice started teaching at MDS nine years ago and she is one of our most popular teachers.

Esther Goldsmith & Jeffrey Buller; Miriam & Charly Darwich and Michele & Ben Jacobs were this year’s Dinner Chair people.

The Annual Dinner is one of MDS’s most important events. It brings us together as a community and allows us the opportunity to express our gratitude to the honorees. The funds raised through the dinner directly support the school’s scholarship needs and allows us to continue to provide a quality Jewish education to all our students.

Please show your hakarat hatov to this year’s extraordinary honorees by giving generously to Manhattan Day School.  Click here to make an online donation. Thank you in advance for your support.
